The Ontario Poetry Society Presents
The Gravity of Desire - A Canadian Poetry Anthology
David Stones, Editor & Roy G. James, Illustrator
All members of The Ontario Poetry Society are invited to participate in our annual anthology of poetry.
This collection will feature your best poems on the following topics:
Gratifying Desires - Poems about things that you want to do (bucket list poems) or items you want to buy (house, fancy car, cottage, expensive coat, diamond watch), people with whom you have found love
Weight of Stones / Drifting Kites - Poems about things you want badly but are out of reach, that promotion you were deprived of, unrequited love, rifts and/or absences in friendship or family
Obsessive Desires - Poems about addictions of any sort: alcoholism, gambling, drugs, eating, shopping, hoarding (pets, food, shoes, purses, clothes...), workaholism, cleanliness (over-sanitizing), underhanded ways to get things desired (shoplifting, scamming, manipulation tactics)
Peaceful Landings - Poems about people or activities that bring you down to earth, hobbies or pastimes that center or focus you, meditation, yoga, tai chi, art and music (both creation and appreciation).
Poems may be in rhyme and/or in free verse. Poems may be previously published, as long as the author (you) hold the copyright. Include any publishing credits, previous poetry prizes, etc., at the bottom of the page for the respective poem(s). Poems are not to exceed 70 lines, including stanza breaks. Poems need to be single spaced. If sending shorter poems, only one poem per page. #12 Arial font.
Each member must submit a minimum of 5 poems up to a maximum of 10 poems. This way the editor/compiler has enough choices from your submission to make the best selection for the book.
Kindly make sure your name is neatly printed on the top left hand corner of your poem and the theme of each poem is typed on the upper right hand corner of the page.
Each member is guaranteed to have a minimum of 2 short poems or 1 long poem that needs two pages in the book.
Fill out the accompanying Bio Information Form, as there will be a bio section at the back of the book.
Your answers to the bio questions to be written in the third person. (Instead of I and me, write he/she and him/her).
Submission Deadline: Entries to be mailed on or before March 15, 2024
Estimated date of publication is October 31, 2024.
The Ontario Poetry Society is a registered, not-for-profit, grass roots, democratic, poet-friendly organization.
