Kamal Parmar nee Kamal Gurtaj Singh, was born in India and has been passionately involved in writing since high school and University years. Her genre is poetry and creative non-fiction and she dabbles frequently with Haiku poetry. Her poems are simple, though poised and evocative enough to set the reader thinking. She has a few books published in UK and India and many publications in reputed US and Canadian literary journals and anthologies.

Kamal has been a member of a several writers' organizations and Writers Guilds. Currently, she is an Associate member of the League of Canadian Poets and a member of The Ontario Poetry Society.

Fleeting Shadows

Kamal has crafted verses of beauty, life and childhood memories of India. Her verses reflect a poet's delight in seeing beauty all around us, in self-reflection and quiet appreciation. Her verses speak of her acute observation , sensuousness and an innate sense of being 'in sync' with nature. The book aptly titled," In the rising mist", highlights her renditions of seasonal changes as well as touches upon the finer nuances of life in India, with fondness.

Filigree and Flint

With haunting descriptions and and subtle observations, Kamal has created poems that are simple but poised, allowing a deeper level of meaning to surface. Fulfillment and hope are skillfully juxtaposed to add to the complexity of thoughts and feelings , to make this book so full of meaning.

The Blue saga

This book is the poet's very successful attempt to highlight the historic events in the religion of Sikhism which are unparalleled in the history of mankind. Written in a poignant style these poems have a Miltonic tone about them that challenges the reader and leaves an indelible impression on the reader's mind.


This is her debut poetry book and her poems speak about the hidden beauty that is all around us. This book is her successful attempt to delve into the "spiritual realm of Nature."

The book is a piece of creative non-fiction and has a series of letter written to her son and daughter in an attempt of teach them how to come to terms with today' fast-paced advice. Written in simple style it is peppered with gentle parental advice. The book is a must-read for every parent. These letters have been complied based on real-life experience of the author as a parent of two children.

Letters to a Son & a Daughter

Written in a simple and endearing style these letters are the outcome of the author's personal experience while parenting her two teenage children. Each letter has the personal touch of a caring parent as she teaches her children to face the world. Gently peppred with advice, these are not lectures in morals but conversation pieces that leave a lasting imprint on the child's mind.




In the rising mist

Her new book, due to published in December 2013, is titled," In the rising mist," and reflect the beauty of nature that exists in the simplest of things… those which we often fail to notice. The poet urges the reader to visualize the beauty of these thought-provoking, simple and poignant poems and reflect on life in general.

These poems also have an element of diversity, as a few of them describe vivid scenes of India, -- images that make the reader peep into the finer nuances of culture in India. The poet remembers them with some degree of nostalgia and sensitivity as the reader tends to discover oneself while perusing these poems.
